Endodontics is the specialist area of dentistry that concerns the soft pulp tissue within teeth. When this internal pulp becomes infected it can ultimately lead to the tooth having to be extracted. At Bushey Dental Surgery we are able to prevent this from happening and can save the tooth with the appropriate Endodontic treatment.
The pulp and nerves inside teeth can become infected for a number of reasons, including serious decay or fracture. The result can be very painful and often comes with swelling and inflammation of the surrounding area. The problem can be effectively treated with Endodontics (commonly referred to as Root Canal Treatment).
During the process, the pulp tissue is gently removed from within the tooth and the newly emptied root canals are then cleaned. A special material known as gutta-percha is then used to fill the canals before the tooth is finally sealed for protection. The treatment is designed to save the tooth and extend its lifespan for many years.
